Every weekend we're watching movies together...whether you're in Pennsylvania USA, or Sydney Australia. It's a throwback! Back to the days when you had the anticipation for waiting till the weekend to see the classic horror or science fiction film that was listed in the TV Guide. The plan is to watch a movie at 7:30PM on Saturday night in your own time zone. Or, if you can't Saturday night...anytime during the weekend. Then, we'll all get together and e-mail our thoughts on the film...a few paragraphs...or simply a sentence if you'd like. They after-viewing reviews appear first on our Creepy Classics/Monster Bash News Page. See the latest thoughts posted by viewers ther now.

MOVIE OF THE WEEK: Saturday September 15, 2012 - MOVIE - Melodama "CURSE OF THE CAT PEOPLE" (1944). An intriguing tale, beautifully filmed in a style that bears more resemblance to a Grimm’s fairytale than horror, with a mesmerizing performance from Ann Carter. This is her film and she is strong and convincing in the role. The exploration of the insecurity of the child coupled with a troubled relationship with her father is fascinating. The expectation of a "horror" film with the suggestive title is also misleading. This is ultimately a surprisingly sensitive and uniquely haunting film that would appeal on many levels. A beautiful fantasy movie featuring the ghost of the character from the CAT PEOPLE (Simone Simon). Magical scenes in a haunted garden that really come to life in this Val Lewton proction. And, the scene ofthe old woman telling the tale of "Sleepy Hollow" is just riviting! I actually like this film better than the great CAT PEOPLE.

My favorite Lewton film and one my favorites period. Despite the lurid
title, this is more of a child psychology film with Ann Carter turning
in a excellent performance as Amy, the sensitive, withdrawn daughter
of Kent Smith and Jane Randolph reprising their roles from the
original CAT PEOPLE (1942). They are married and worry about Amy as
she tends to live in an imaginary world- Smith's character, Oliver,
feels she is too much like his first wife, Irena (played by Simone
Simon in the original CP), saying in one scene that "...she could
almost be Irena's daughter". It doesn't help that Oliver is a bit of
a tool-being short with Amy constantly and for some reason keeping a
picture of Irena even though she is dead and he is married to Alice
(Randolph). Simon does show up in the film as Amy's friend, but
whether it's just Amy's imagination or not is left in the air. Good
performances by all involved, with the great Elizabeth Russell shining
as a seriously disturbed daughter herself-she is quite frightening at
the end, even though you truly feel sorry for her. As on CAT PEOPLE,
another great Greg Mank commentary and as said earlier, if you don't
have this, go to the CREEPY CLASSICS DVD section and order
this...NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Absolutely *****-does anyone know if Ann Carter is still alive and
if so, has she done any conventions? If Donnie Dunegan can do them,
why not her? Her turn in this film is , for my money, the best
performance by a child ever

Hey Ron,
Curse of the Cat People is really a pretty good 'ghost' story, following up on the Cat People, and
I think sequels that have the original cast members, make it even better.
I think Erana appears to little miss because she represents the child she could have had with
Oliver but never came to be. One thing that never get cleared up, is Elizabeth Russell, really
the strange old ladies daughter, or just her imagination?
Anyways a great old fashioned b/w
